Delivering Treatment
...state of the art care, forefront technology

Our Elekta Infinity HD Linear Accelerator was custom built to our specifications in Crawley, England and installed in our center by a team of experts.  It is truly state-of-the art, with beam adjustment and shaping capabilities that exceed that of nearly all other accelerators available, owing to an Elekta Agility treatment head.  The Infinity HD administers therapy with a range of energies for precision targeting.  It includes options for frameless SRS for high-precision brain treatment without a surgical head-frame, advanced breathing control to help patients breathe in such a way that minimizes tumor motion with respiration, volumetric modulated arc therapy (VMAT) for fast, accurate and safe treatment, and advanced image guided radiation therapy (IGRT) with 4D capabilities on-board.

VMAT is a form of intensity modulated radiation therapy (IMRT), and is one of the most advanced methods of delivering radiation treatment today.  At GenXRT, we are proud to offer this to our patients, and we're even more proud of the results this technique has enabled our patients to achieve.  VMAT beams are arcs of radiation delivered with a variable amount of radiation intensity across different portions of the beam, adjusted as the machine rotates around the patient's body.  Using our treatment planning systems, Elekta Monaco, every beam used in a radiotherapy plan is analyzed to determine which portions of the beam are most useful (i.e. those portions that hit the tumor and miss normal structures), and which are less useful.  The beam's intensity and dose rate is adjusted to maximize the amount of radiation delivered through useful portions of the beam, and minimize or significantly limit the amount of radiation that passes through portions of the beam that would contribute radiation dose to normal tissues.  In addition to offering our patients treatment with VMAT and other forms of IMRT, we also use other methods when appropriate, including 3-dimensional conformal radiotherapy, stereotactic body radiosurgery, intracranial stereotactic radiation therapy, and image guided radiation therapy.  Dr. Jahraus, the radiation oncologist at GenXRT is specially trained and board certified in his knowledge of which treatment method is best suited to a particular situation.
